Generic Movement Patterns

Refer to Lateral Crab Motion, Backward Crab Motion  and Forward Crab Fashion as Lateral Side Step, Backward Side Step and Forward Side Step, respectively.

The Forehand Basic One Step Crab (Lateral Side Step) Lateral Movement Pattern.

The back foot with a small step initiates this lateral movement.


This pattern encourages the player to reflex and intercept the ball from the A1 Zone.

The Backhand Basic One Step Crab Motion (Lateral Side Step) Lateral Movement Pattern.

The Backhand Basic One Step Crossing (Lateral Side Step) Lateral Movement Pattern.


The player must have time and feel balanced when executing this pattern from the A1 Zone.

The Forehand Basic Two Step Crab Motion(Lateral Side Step) Lateral Movement Pattern.

Generally, the player feels balanced when executing this pattern from the A1 Zone.
On occasions, the elite player's superior athletic ability allows the elite player to be off balance when executing this pattern from the A1 Zone.
